Seasonal Tournament Grounds Crew
Salary: $10.00/hour

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation authority is accepting applications for Seasonal Tournaments Grounds Crew positions. These positions are responsible for performing essential grounds maintenance for weekend tournaments of the Valdosta Lowndes Parks and Recreation Authority.  Work involves ensuring that the general aesthetics of facilities and grounds are attractive and inviting to all participants and attendees at parks and facilities.  Reports to Full-time Parks Staff.

Qualifications: Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn common ball field maintenance and safe cleaning practices; must be at least 16 years of age; must possess a valid State driver's license.

Hours of Operation: These positions primarily work weekend hours during tournaments. Hours range from Friday afternoons to Sunday nights and may range from early morning hours to late night hours.

MHC Rec Aide
Salary: $8.50/hour

Classification: Part Time


The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for MHC Rec Aide, who will assist the Mildred Hunter Center Coordinator in the maintenance and daily functions of the Mildred Hunter Community Center and its related programs and events. Events and programs include basketball and youth football, the Marching Pride Drill Team, MHCC’s Dancing Dolls, and several teen mentoring groups.

Location: 509 South Fry St., Valdosta, GA 31601

Hours of operation: MHC Rec Aides work both traditional and untraditional hours including weekends and nights.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. Applicant must be 18 years of age or older. Strong typing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred. Must possess a valid Georgia State Driver’s license and have reliable transportation. Successful applicant will display a positive attitude and professional manner. If offered the position applicant must satisfactorily complete all post offer background checks, a motor vehicle report and a drug test.

Senior Center Rec Aide
Starting Salary: $8.50/hour

Classification: Part-Time

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Recreation Aide within the Senior Center division. The position is responsible for assisting the Senior Center Supervisor with planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating activities for senior citizen participants. Some major responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching exercise classes, monitoring front desk and exercise room, assisting with arts and crafts and running special events.

Hours of Operation: While normal hours of operation will be Monday – Friday between 8am and 5pm, this position works both traditional and untraditional hours to include some weekends and nights. Hours and shifts may vary depending on special events and needs of the Authority.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.  Applicants must have reliable transportation. Applicant must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs with strong typing skills. Certification in an area of physical training or coaching is a plus. Successful applicant will display a positive attitude, a passion for working with senior populations and a professional manner. If offered the position applicant must satisfactorily complete all post offer background checks, a motor vehicle report and a drug test.

Special Events Rec Aide
Salary: $8.50/hour

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Special Events Rec Aide. The position is part-time in nature and reports to the Program Coordinator. This position performs a wide array of duties to support all programs, with an emphasis on operating the Sunset Slush booth. This position may also assist with basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, softball, dance, drill team, parades, camps, and all other programming of VLPRA. Applicants should be aware that this position does require weekend shift availability, mainly on Saturdays.

Hours of operation: Employment in this part time position will require both regular and irregular work hours to include weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the Authority.

Youth Athletics Assistant
Starting Salary: 28,408 - 39,771

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Youth Athletic Assistant. This position, under general supervision, performs supervisory and athletic tasks assisting with the planning, organizing, and supervising of youth athletic programs. Work involves training and supervising part-time personnel for the Youth Athletic Program; performing duties of part-time personnel in their absence; assisting with scheduling of the use of athletic facilities, preparing requisitions and reimbursements for maintenance expenses, and purchasing and delivering supplies and equipment for programs; addressing inquiries regarding program by electronic mail and telephone; preparing facilities for use; and performing other duties as assigned. Reports to the Youth Athletic Supervisor.

Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree in sports management, leisure services, parks, recreation and tourism management, or related field supplemented by one to two years of responsible experience in recreation programming, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid Georgia State Driver’s license. Successful applicant will display a positive attitude and professional manner.

The successful candidate must be a mature and highly capable individual and must demonstrate superb skills in team leadership and motivation. Must have excellent communication (both verbal and written), customer service, organization, and project management skills. The position requires a smart, dynamic, resourceful, reliable, highly motivated, self-starter who is pro-active, able to develop new protocols and procedures, and respond to unexpected challenges, oftentimes with limited outside guidance. Groundskeeper
Salary:  $23,088 - $32,323

Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Parks Groundskeeper. This position, under regular supervision, performs grounds maintenance for the maintenance and repair of the parks and recreational facilities and grounds. Work involves ensuring cleanliness of grounds, operates spray equipment and machinery in the application of various herbicides, preparing sports turf playing fields for activities, performing electrical maintenance, performing general carpentry duties, providing horticulture maintenance, and painting. Reports to the Parks Coordinator.

Hours of operation: Employment in this full-time position may require both regular and irregular work hours to include frequent weekends and nights or holidays depending on the needs of the Authority.

Qualifications: Requires an Associate’s degree in turf management or related field supplemented by one to two years of grounds and facility maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.  Bachelor’s degree in turf management or a related field with experience in electrical, plumbing, irrigation and/or landscaping preferred. Valid category 24 ornamental and turf pesticide applicators license holder preferred. Must possess a valid State driver's license; CDL license preferred. Must be capable of obtaining CDL and pesticide license within 6 months of employment if not currently held.

Competitive Soccer Referee
Salary: $16 per game

Classification: Part Time

The position of Competitive Soccer Referee records game statistics and/or keeps time for youth soccer programs and is responsible for officiating in scheduled games and programs sponsored or coordinated by VLPRA. Must be aware of the sports officiating rules and playing guidelines for soccer. Assists with the implementation of all rules, regulations, and policies governing the sports program, and mediate conflicts and official protests in conjunction with the specified VLPRA Supervisor. A moderate level of independent judgment is necessary to be a Competitive Soccer Referee. This position works with the Youth Soccer U10, U12 and U14 leagues. This position reports to the Youth Athletic Supervisor.

Qualifications: Must be a minimum of 17 years old. Prior experience in soccer is required. Knowledge of the Rules of Play standard to soccer and the ability to enforce such rules. Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationships with other participants including coaches, players, supervisors, and other employees. Must have reliable transportation. USSF Soccer Referee certification preferred.
