Crewleader

Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Parks Crewleader. This position, under general supervision, performs grounds activities and landscaping, repairing and maintaining playground equipment and facilities, and related projects. Work involves supervising an assigned work crew; ensuring the upkeep of grounds; supporting the grounds keeping activities through training and maintenance of supplies; maintaining equipment and mowers; keeping bathrooms clean, orderly, and operational; and maintaining a safe environment.

Hours of operation: Employment in this full time position may require both regular and irregular work hours to include frequent weekends and nights or holidays depending on the needs of the Authority.

Qualifications: Requires an Associate’s degree in turf management or related field supplemented by three years of grounds and facility maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Bachelor’s degree in turf management or a related field with experience in electrical, plumbing, irrigation and/or landscaping preferred. Valid category 24 ornamental and turf pesticide applicators license holder preferred. Must possess a valid State driver's license; CDL license preferred. Must be capable of obtaining CDL and pesticide license within 6 months of employment if not currently held.

The successful candidate must be a mature and highly capable individual and must demonstrate superb skills in team leadership and motivation. He/She must have excellent communication (both verbal and written), customer service, organization, and project management skills. The position requires a smart, dynamic, resourceful, reliable, highly motivated, self-starter who is pro-active, able to develop new protocols and procedures, and respond to unexpected challenges, oftentimes with limited outside guidance. Groundskeeper

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Groundskeeper. This position, under regular supervision, performs grounds maintenance and repair of the parks and recreational facilities and grounds. Work involves ensuring cleanliness of grounds, operating spray equipment and machinery in the application of various herbicides, preparing sports turf playing fields for activities, performing electrical maintenance, performing general carpentry duties, providing horticulture maintenance, and painting.

Hours of operation: Employment in this part-time position may require both regular and irregular work hours to include frequent weekends and nights or holidays depending on the needs of the Authority.

Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid State driver's license.

Seasonal Tournament Grounds Crew
Salary: $10.00/hour

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation authority is accepting applications for Seasonal Tournaments Grounds Crew positions. These positions are responsible for performing essential grounds maintenance for weekend tournaments of the Valdosta Lowndes Parks and Recreation Authority.  Work involves ensuring that the general aesthetics of facilities and grounds are attractive and inviting to all participants and attendees at parks and facilities.  Reports to Full-time Parks Staff.

Qualifications: Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn common ball field maintenance and safe cleaning practices; must be at least 16 years of age; must possess a valid State driver's license.

Hours of Operation: These positions primarily work weekend hours during tournaments. Hours range from Friday afternoons to Sunday nights and may range from early morning hours to late night hours.

Facilities and Grounds Manager
Salary: $58,490.00 – 81,886.00

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority is accepting applications for the position of Facilities and Grounds Manager.  This position plans, directs, and manages the service operations, budget and personnel of the parks division. Work is performed with considerable independence and latitude to allow professional judgment to be exercised in providing leadership and making decisions. Reports to the Executive Director.

The successful candidate must be a mature and highly capable individual and must demonstrate superb skills in team leadership and motivation. He/She must have excellent communication (both verbal and written), customer service, organization, and project management skills. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Recreation and Parks Administration, Turfgrass Management or related field, plus 7 years of progressively responsible upper management level experience in public parks, professional/university sports facilities setting or a related field. Advanced knowledge of agronomy and environmental turfgrass management practices including pest, disease and weed management.   Past experience managing at least 12+ full -time employees and numerous part time employees a plus.  Excellent computer skills, including solid experience in working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Valid US driver’s license is required.

Non-Competitive Soccer Referee
Salary: $12 per game
Closing Date: Open Until Filled
Classification: Part Time

The position of Non-Competitive Soccer Referee records game statistics and/or keeps time for youth soccer programs and is responsible for officiating in scheduled games and programs sponsored or coordinated by VLPRA. Must be aware of the sports officiating rules and playing guidelines for soccer. Assists with the implementation of all rules, regulations, and policies governing the sports program, and mediate conflicts and official protests in conjunction with the specified VLPRA Supervisor. A moderate level of independent judgment is necessary to be a Non-Competitive Soccer Referee. This positions works with the Youth Soccer U6 and U8 leagues. This position reports to the Youth Athletic Supervisor.

Qualifications: Must be a minimum of 17 years old. Prior experience in soccer is required. Knowledge of the Rules of Play standard to soccer and the ability to enforce such rules. Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationships with other participants including coaches, players, supervisors, and other employees. Must have reliable transportation. USSF Soccer Referee certification preferred.

Hours of Operation: Games will be played primarily between 5pm and 9pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday during the weeks of the soccer seasons. Some games may be played on Saturday mornings depending on the needs of the Authority.
