  • We are overwhelmed by the response to today's Stocked Cart Race. We had more teams (18!!!!) and more food than ever before. All the food raised went straight to Hungry At Home. There was so much, the H@H folks had to get a big rental size truck to carry it all. Thank you to all of our teams who participated and contributed to such an awesome cause. Thank you to Mayor John Gayle and County Commission Chairman Bill Slaughter for holding the finish line tape as well as to Council Woman Vivian Miller Cody and to Sheriff Ashley Paulk for attending. Thank you to Lowes for hosting the event and letting us race their carts. Congrats to our winning teams: J.L. Lomax with the Most Food Raised and Fastest Cart and Dewar Elementary Student Council for Best Decorated Cart. These are the phone photos. More pictures to come...

  • Rev up your engines for the annual VLPRA Stocked Cart Race: a food drive for Hungry at Home. Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority is inviting your organization to create a team of four people who will bring food donations, decorate a shopping cart, and drag race it against other teams on November 4th. Teams can enter by signing up at www.vlpra.com and bringing at least $25 worth of food to the event; more is better! Advanced registration at our website is preferred, but we will take day of registration as well. Each team will be given a cart and time to decorate that cart in whatever theme the team chooses. Then the teams will be matched up in head-to-head drag races to see who can push the fastest cart. Check in begins at 9:00 AM on November 4th in the Lowes side parking lot on St. Augustine Road (behind Zaxbys). Racing starts at 10:00 AM. We will NOT accept money- only food that Lowes will donate to "Hungry at Home". HAH gives backpacks full of food every Friday to kids in our schools who don't have enough to eat on the weekends. (www.hungryathome.org). Please donate food that a child can cook without adult assistance. Think: pop top Chef Boyardee meals, granola bars, pop top tuna kits, vienna sausages, raisins, etc. WHO: Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority (VLPRA), Lowes, and Hungry at Home WHAT: Holiday Stocked Cart Race WHEN: Saturday, November 4, 2017 WHERE: Lowes side parking lot (1106 North St. Augustine Road) WHY: To have fun and help others!

It is a popular ride with several options. You can find out more information at http://cccyclists.org/spaghetti100/ We would like to use this as an opportunity to adjust the Dixie Cream Donut Dash moving forward. VLPRA is interested in rebranding this ride and utilizing input from local riding groups to make this a premiere event for cyclists from around the southeast. Thank you for your patience and understanding and we look forward to working with you as we embark on creating this new ride.
