  • On Wednesday, May 2nd, the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Harry B. Anderson Tennis Center expansion at McKey Park. The expansion will add six new courts to the center, giving it a total of 18 courts. The addition will benefit local players as it gives more space to play and it will also have a positive economic impact as it will draw local, regional, and even national tournaments. In fact, the center will be the host site of a USTA state tournament this summer and next summer. The USTA estimates each event to bring in around $400,000 in economic impact for the area. Thank you to everyone who attended the groundbreaking including our VLPRA Board members, elected officials, Tennis Valdosta, Valdosta-Lowndes Development Authority, and the Valdosta Lowndes Chamber of Commerce!

  • On Tuesday, May 1st, VLPRA and The Miracle League of Valdosta broke ground on the new Miracle Field Complex at Freedom Park. The complex will include a two-dimensional rubberized Miracle Field as well as four standard baseball fields. It will also include a pavilion and concession/restroom building which will all be fully accessible. Plus, there will be a boundless playground where children of all abilities can play together. We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with the Miracle League of Valdosta and for the support of our elected officials and the community. This project is happening because of the dedication of big-hearted people and the athletes it will benefit are inspiring, brave, and determined. Thank you to everyone who attended: board members, elected officials, donors, sponsors, GRPA representatives, athletes, volunteers, and community members. Thank you to Big El at Hot 102.7, Big Nicks, and Chick-fil-A for the food and atmosphere. We can't wait to see the final product at the end of the year!

  • Because of all the recent rain, several of our fields have standing water which means they won't be playable for this afternoon's games. Unfortunately, we will have to cancel all baseball, softball, and t-ball games today (4/23) as the fields won't be ready in time. However, PICTURES ARE STILL HAPPENING. The pictures will be at Field 3, NOT Field 8. Again, pictures are happening today at Field 3. If you are scheduled for pictures today, please be there as it is mandatory that your team take a team photo. You are not required to purchase anything, but it is necessary that you take the team picture. There will be NO make up days, so please make every effort to be there. Again, games are cancelled today, but pictures are still happening at Field 3 (not Field 8). For those who have pictures tomorrow, your schedule remains the same and photos will be on Field 8. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to seeing your awesome photos!
